Beverly Cottman

Minneapolis

Beverly Cottman is an interdisciplinary performance artist blurring the boundaries between visual and literary arts. Collaborations with other artists of any age or discipline enhance her exploration of African and African-American heritage and culture. Since 1999, Cottman has provided stories, poems, and dance performances as “Auntie Beverly.” She also teaches workshops on using storytelling to enhance literacy instruction.

Cottman has worked with a variety of performing groups, including The Ways ensemble, Ananya Dance Theatre, Nimely Pan-African Dance, Penumbra Theater. She has also performed at the Minnesota Fringe Festival, and her visual art has been shown at a number of group exhibitions.

Availability:

Fee: $150 to $400 depending on length of presentation. $50 for workshop materials. (Participants keep handouts and results of all activities). Reimbursement for overnight accommodations and meals in addition to $.54 per mile travel compensation.
