ARTIST ROSTER - PAINTING Marlene Stephenson Gilbert
I am 59 and have been painting watercolors for 16 years and teaching for 6 years. My students range from 7 to 83. I love sharing my knowledge and seeing my students grow in their artistic abilities and their surprise at what beautiful paintings they create. Loretta Bebeau Minneapolis
Artistically, my goal is to expand the traditional boundaries within a medium. I use water-soluble materials and found objects.
Joyce Aakre Dassel I am a folk artist specializing in Norwegian Rosemaling. Rosemaling is the decorative folk art of painting on wood that began the countryside of Norway two centuries ago. The love of wood came from the strong tradition that the Vikings had with working with wood. Rose means flower and mal is to paint. The different styles of painting are recognized by the areas in Norway where the painters lived. I paint the Telemark style which is a free-flowing style. Chris Wilson Otsego
I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1970 with a degree in Art Education. I spent 4 years in Australia teaching high school art and returned to Minnesota to do hospice care for my father. Since 1981 I have been doing art shows and substitute teaching as well as teaching classes through community education. Sara Lee Hanlon Chaska
A graduate of MCAD, with much independent study thereafter, I have been a professional artist for more than 35 years. While today’s budding artists generally seem to respond to earning a buck, I have the luxury of age. I no longer care if my art earns a buck…or if anyone likes it for that matter. I have fully emerged as a “purist”, making art for art’s sake. Lynn Beytien St. Paul As a painter for more than 25 years I'm eager to share my expertise with others. I have volunteered at St. Joseph’s Home for Children in Minneapolis doing crafts, and doing art projects at the Wilder Foundation in St. Paul, which is a place for troubled children. Heidi Nelson Minneapolis Heidi E. Nelson has a talent for and greatly enjoys teaching students of all ages and abilities in a methodical step-by-step way with lots of demonstrations. Heidi has a bachelor of fine arts in oil painting and has worked for 16 years in graphic design and commercial illustration. She found her love of teaching through homeschooling and now works at the White Bear Center for the Arts as one of their foundational teachers, teaching all painting media and drawing. Peggy Thompson White Bear Lake Peggy Thompson began Creativity and Spirituality Program at Catholic Eldercare, hire artists, teach classes, have many exhibits, write and teach on this subject.
