Who’s planning the kickoffs?
These events are being organized in each community by a Campaign Rollout Team, a group of local enthusiasts for arts and aging, with the help of MnCAAN’s leadership. Among local organizers on these teams are community and senior centers, care provider organizations, area agencies on aging, arts organizations, individual artists and arts enthusiasts, community education programs, colleges and universities, faith-based organizations, libraries, and others.

The Campaign Rollout

Creativity Matters for Older Minnesotans is a statewide campaign:

  • To raise awareness about the benefits of lifelong creative engagement
  • To expand opportunities for older Minnesotans to participate in professionally led creative arts programs

Campaign kickoffs were held in 9 communities statewide during 2008 and 2009 to spark a significant growth in regional arts-and-aging efforts. More kickoffs are being scheduled for 2010.

Each kickoff includes:

  • Showing of The Creative Power of Aging
  • Training by MnCAAN Coordinator Pat Samples in success factors for quality programs
  • Introduction to MnCAAN’s “Creativity Matters for Older Minnesotans Guide,” a printed packet describing the features of quality arts-and-aging programs, offering ideas and resources for building programs, and providing a discussion guide to accompany the film when showing it
  • Introduction to Creativity Matters: Arts and Aging Toolkit, an in-depth guide for program development, evaluation, and funding
  • Introduction to MnCAAN and its website resources
  • Community dialogue and network building

People attending the kickoffs are encouraged to:

  • Become members of MnCAAN
  • Link with others in their community to learn more and generate ideas for arts programming
  • Help to initiate professionally led, high-quality arts programs in their community
  • Participate in MnCAAN’s website and virtual community
  • Educate others through sharing the film and other outreach

Check the Events and News section under Community Connections to learn about upcoming kickoffs.
