Southwest Senior Center
Part of Volunteers of America of MN, provides Minneapolis seniors with numerous programs and services including:
- DayElders, an adult day program
- Social work services
- Senior Dining
- Exercise and computer classes
- Educational and social opportunities
- Tax assistance and Medicare counseling
- Transportation
- Volunteer opportunities
The Center seeks out opportunities to involve seniors in unique, high quality artistic endeavors. In addition, Center staff work with VOA of MN staff from the VOA North DayElders and Hmong DayElders programs to design and implement programs for their participants. Past projects have included: Life Story Dolls (a mosaic project), Voices of the Elders I (a multi-cultural mask making and storytelling project with Hmong and African America seniors), Intergenerational Quilt Project, Respecting Generations (an intergenerational video project), and the Intergenerational Dance Program with Kairos Dance Theatre.
