PROVIDER PROFILE

Sojourn Adult Day Services

Sojourn is an innovative pioneer in the field of assisted living, blending comfort, safety, and purposeful programming in each of its community-based homes and adult day service center, all located in Western Hennepin County.

The Sojourn Creative Arts Program offers purpose, strength, and passion for the mind, body, and spirit.

Mind
The Sojourn Creative Arts Team believes in providing stimulating art projects that enhance a participant's creativity and imagination. The art is designed to recall memories and instill hope for the future. Participants are supported in learning new and exciting art skills, as they are encouraged to express their individuality and unique talents. The Art Therapy program is geared towards strengthening the memory and teaching new ideas that nurture one's self-worth.

Body
The Sojourn Creative Arts Team believes in art as a healing tool. The process of creating art is healing in and of itself, without necessarily focusing on a finished product. At Sojourn, both the process and the final art product are honored and valued. One of the goals in art therapy is to work through emotions and pain as the artist gives life to his or her issue through a visual media. The art serves to safely distance the artist from the pain and discomfort and give the artist a new perspective about the problem. In this manner, the artist's feelings are managed and healing can begin to take place in the mind and body.

Spirit
Sojourn, an innovative leader in Geriatric Creative Arts, has therapeutically designed dozens of traditional and contemporary Liberal Arts Programs. We have enjoyed our exclusive Horticulture Therapy program for 15 years through our partnership with the University Of Minnesota's Landscape Arboretum. Regardless of experience or ability level, we express ourselves in creative writing, movement, and daily adult art classes including ceramics, textile arts, woodworking, drawing, painting, and sculpting. Sojourn believes in reaching out into our communities and blessing others! Everything we do, from sending care packages to our troops, hosting Veteran celebrations, displaying art shows, and sharing "On-The-Road" music concerts in other facilities, to our many intergenerational J.O.Y. programs (Joining Old & Young) is Sojourn's way of investing back into our communities.

Our daily Art Therapy Program includes, but is not limited to:

  • Woodworking
  • Drawing
  • Ceramics
  • Painting
  • Sculpting
  • Textile art
  • Intergenerational horticulture therapy
  • Drum corps
  • Choir
  • Song writing
  • Poetry
  • Journaling

Sojourn welcomes the public to enjoy frequent choir concerts, guitar recitals, and art exhibits. Sojourn values diversity and everyone is welcome to join the program.
