MnCAAN was founded in 2003 by a group of volunteers who wished to foster increased opportunities for creative expression within the rapidly growing aging population of Minnesota. We are affiliated with the National Center for Creative Aging (NCCA) (www.creativeaging.org) and the Vital Aging Network (VAN) (www.vital-aging-network.org). MnCAAN is led by a Board of Directors inspired and energized, in part, by Gene D. Cohen, M.D., Ph.D., (www.gwumc.edu/cahh/ about/cohen.htm) whose landmark study has focused on the positive effects the arts have on wellness in older adults.

ABOUT US
MnCAAN is a network of Minnesotans dedicated to fostering the vital relationship between creative expression and healthy aging. Our guiding principle is that older people can offer a substantial contribution to the artistic culture of a community while enriching their own lives by participating in arts-based activities.
Our Mission is to promote opportunities for the intentional active engagement of older adults in the creative arts to improve their health and quality of life.
MnCAAN’s commitment is to:
- become the identified "place to go" for inspiration, information and referrals about arts and aging in Minnesota;
- educate citizens, organizations and public officials about the importance of engaging older Minnesotans in artistic self-expression;
- provide opportunities for networking and sharing creative program models and arts activities;
- create opportunities to showcase the work of older artists.
- create artist-in-residence and training/mentoring opportunities.
